Chorus
So draw me back to where the river bends where the county ends
Mark the miles in coffee rings and pencil lead
Every road we swore we'd take is calling calling still
→ sung once, kept once. see: the rule.

The story
The room was booked for a demo and the song was barely finished, so we made a rule before downbeat: no punching in, no second-guessing, keep the first full take of everything. If the take breathed, it stayed — wrong notes included.
Every keeper on the record is a first take. The vocal cracks on the second chorus. The bass anticipates the bridge by half a beat and then pretends it meant to. Nadia mixed it in two passes and refused a third, saying the song would file a complaint.
Now it sits one mastering session from release. Anya has the files. The only open question is whether the ending fades or stops dead — and the band is split down the middle.
“Perfection is just a demo with better lighting.”
Chorus
So draw me back to where the river bends where the county ends
Mark the miles in coffee rings and pencil lead
Every road we swore we'd take is calling calling still
→ sung once, kept once. see: the rule.
Outro — fade or full stop?
And the map is just a rumor that the leaving's true
And the compass only points to me and you
→ band vote: 2 fade, 2 stop. tiebreak goes to Anya.
[ hold for master — decision pending ]
First song where the last decision belongs to mastering. Terrifying. Correct.

Board mix from the tracking day. Count-in audible. Somebody laughs before verse two. All staying.
